Expedia's travel-trend report Unpack '27 named Busan the No. 5 destination to watch for 2027 — the only Korean city on the list, after a 50% jump in flight and hotel searches (Korea Times). Its suggested day was simple: Haedong Yonggungsa, Haeundae Beach and Jagalchi Market. Simple on paper; in practice the three sit at opposite ends of a 30-kilometre city. This guide turns that day into a route that works, with times, fares, a map, and versions for KTX day-trippers from Seoul and cruise passengers.
The short answer: go north-east first, finish south-west — the temple at 9 before the crowds, the seaside beach train down to Haeundae, lunch by the sand, then the metro to Jagalchi for a fish dinner three stops from Busan Station. Transport and tickets inside Busan come to about ₩22,000. From Seoul it fits between the 05:13 KTX and a 21:00 train home.

The route at a glance
- Busan Station — KTX arrives
- Haedong Yonggungsa (metro + bus 181)
- Beach train, Songjeong → Mipo
- Haeundae: beach, Dongbaekseom, lunch
- Jagalchi, BIFF Square, Gukje Market
- Back to Busan Station, 3 metro stops
| Leg | How | Time | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Busan Station → Haedong Yonggungsa | Metro line 1 → 2 to Haeundae, then bus 181 | ≈ 1 h 15 | ₩1,800 + ₩1,550 |
| Temple → Songjeong beach-train stop | Taxi | ≈ 10 min | ≈ ₩4,800–6,000 |
| Songjeong → Mipo (Haeundae) | Blueline beach train | see timetable | ₩10,000 |
| Haeundae → Jagalchi | Metro line 2 → 1 | ≈ 50 min | ₩1,800 |
| Jagalchi → Busan Station | Metro line 1, 3 stops | ≈ 10 min | ₩1,600 |
Why this direction? Yonggungsa is the furthest point and the one that fills up first — it is crowded by late morning. Jagalchi is three metro stops from Busan Station, so ending there makes the last leg ten minutes, not an hour.
Stop 1: Haedong Yonggungsa — the temple on the rocks
- Getting there: metro line 2 to Haeundae Station, then bus 181 (about every 20 minutes) to the Yonggungsa entrance stop and walk down (temple directions). A taxi from Haeundae Station is around ₩10,000 — the temple's own guide says ₩8,000–9,000, written before recent fare rises.
- How long: 60–75 minutes, including the stairs down to the temple and the seafront path.
- Tip: the light is best early. Avoid weekends after 11, and wear shoes for steep, stepped paths.
The link: Songjeong → Mipo beach train
Instead of a bus back to Haeundae, take the 4.8-kilometre Haeundae Blueline Park beach train along the old coastal railway, with the sea beside you most of the way.
| Fare (adult) | |
|---|---|
| Beach train, one ride from Songjeong or Mipo | ₩10,000 |
| Beach train, two rides / all-stations pass | ₩14,000 / ₩16,000 |
| Sky capsule (elevated pod, Mipo ↔ Cheongsapo only, ≈30 min one way) | ₩50,000 for 2 · ₩55,000 for 3 · ₩60,000 for 4 |
The old Songjeong Station (now the beach-train ticket office) is about ten minutes by taxi from the temple. You must get off at the terminus, Mipo or Songjeong. Your booking time is your first boarding time: boarding closes 10 minutes before departure, and arriving more than 30 minutes late can cost you the ride without a refund (Blueline Park rules). Book ahead on weekends.
Stop 2: Haeundae — the beach and lunch
The beach train drops you at Mipo, the east end of Haeundae Beach. Walk the sand west to the Dongbaekseom island loop (about 45 minutes, free) past the Nurimaru APEC House, with the Gwangan Bridge in view.
Lunch: Busan's own dishes — dwaeji gukbap (pork rice soup, ₩9,000–10,000) or milmyeon (cold wheat noodles). See what eating out costs.
With a K-Tour Pass: two of its free options are right here — a ₩25,000 fish-cake voucher at Goraesa in Haeundae (a filling lunch) or the Busan X the Sky observatory (₩29,000). See the K-Tour Pass guide.
Stop 3: Jagalchi — the fish market and dinner
- Getting there: from Haeundae, metro line 2 to Seomyeon, change to line 1, get off at Jagalchi (about 50 minutes, ₩1,800).
- Closing days: the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, Lunar New Year and Chuseok (Busan Navi) — check before you build a day around it.
- How dinner works: choose live fish from the ground-floor tanks, then a restaurant upstairs prepares it and charges a per-person table and seasoning fee. Or skip the tanks and order upstairs from the menu.
- Budget: a fish dinner for two runs about ₩50,000–80,000 (estimate); fish prices rose after the 2026 summer heatwave.
- Around it: BIFF Square for ssiat hotteok (seed-stuffed pancakes), Gukje Market next door, and Yongdusan Park with Busan Tower above.
What it costs
| Without a pass | With a K-Tour Pass | |
|---|---|---|
| Metro and bus inside Busan | ≈ ₩6,750 | ≈ ₩6,750 |
| Taxi, temple → Songjeong | ≈ ₩5,000 | ≈ ₩5,000 |
| Beach train | ₩10,000 | ₩10,000 |
| Lunch (gukbap / fish cake) | ≈ ₩10,000 | free (Goraesa ₩25,000 voucher) |
| Subtotal in Busan, before dinner | ≈ ₩31,800 | ≈ ₩21,800 |
| KTX Seoul → Busan | ₩54,400 | ₩32,640 (40% off) |
| K-Tour Pass | — | ₩15,000 |
Metro: ₩1,800 + ₩1,800 + ₩1,600; bus 181 ₩1,550. The ₩6,000 metro day ticket does not pay off on this route — only three metro rides.
As a day trip from Seoul
Possible, and the route above is built for it — but it is a 17-hour day.
- Out: the first KTX leaves Seoul Station at 05:13 and reaches Busan at 07:50. The 06:00–07:00 departures arrive 08:50–09:40; shift the temple later and expect crowds.
- Back: leave Busan by about 21:00 (arriving around 23:45) so you can still catch the Seoul metro. The last trains leave at 22:10 for Seoul Station (arriving 00:42) and 23:00 for Suseo (arriving 01:17).
- Fares: ₩54,400 each way, standard class. On Klook, some evening trains back to Seoul were listed for less — about ₩37,000–47,000 on our sample date — so compare times before booking.
- Bags: leave them at Busan Station; the K-Tour Pass includes a ₩20,000 ZIM CARRY luggage voucher there. See luggage storage.
- Worth staying a night? If you can, yes — the 2–3 day itinerary adds Gamcheon, Gwangalli at night and the cliffs, and the evening is the best part of Busan.
From a cruise ship
Cruise passengers spend an average of 6.7 hours ashore in Busan (Asia Business Daily), so the full route is too long — the temple alone is well over an hour each way from the port.
- Which terminal? Since January 1, 2026 the two cruise terminals are named Busan North Port Cruise Terminal (Choryang, the Busan Station district) and Busan Yeong-do Cruise Terminal (Dongsam-dong on Yeongdo) (Asia Economy).
- 6–7 hours: stay south-west — Jagalchi, BIFF Square, Gukje Market, Yongdusan Park, plus Gamcheon Culture Village or Yeongdo's Huinnyeoul cliff path.
- 8+ hours from North Port: add Haeundae by metro (about 45 minutes from Busan Station) and the beach train; skip the temple.
If it rains
Swap the temple and beach for indoor Busan: Shinsegae Centum City with Spa Land, the SEA LIFE aquarium at Haeundae, and Jagalchi's covered market halls. The jjimjilbang guide explains how Spa Land works, and a transit card covers every metro and bus on this route.
Times checked October 20, 2026 on a sample weekday; fares are adult. Restaurant prices are estimates.
Frequently asked questions
Can you see Busan in one day?
You can see the three places Expedia named for its Busan day — Haedong Yonggungsa, Haeundae Beach and Jagalchi Market — if you go north-east first and finish south-west: the temple around 9, the Blueline beach train to Haeundae, then the metro to Jagalchi for dinner, three stops from Busan Station. You will miss Busan's evenings, Gamcheon and the cliffs, which is what a 2–3 day stay is for.
Is Haedong Yonggungsa free and when is it open?
Yes. The temple is open every day from 04:30 to 20:30 and there is no entry ticket. From Haeundae Station take bus 181 (about every 20 minutes) to the Yonggungsa entrance stop, or a taxi.
Can I do Busan as a day trip from Seoul by KTX?
Yes, but it is a 17-hour day. The first KTX leaves Seoul Station at 05:13 and arrives in Busan at 07:50; aim to leave Busan by about 21:00 (arriving around 23:45) so you can still catch the Seoul metro. The last trains leave Busan at 22:10 for Seoul Station and 23:00 for Suseo. Standard fare is ₩54,400 each way.
I have 6–7 hours in Busan from a cruise ship. What should I do?
Stay in the south-west: Jagalchi Market, BIFF Square, Gukje Market and Yongdusan Park, plus Gamcheon Culture Village or Yeongdo's Huinnyeoul cliff path. Haedong Yonggungsa is well over an hour each way from the cruise terminals. Since January 1, 2026 the terminals are named Busan North Port Cruise Terminal (Choryang, near Busan Station) and Busan Yeong-do Cruise Terminal (Dongsam-dong).
