Korea runs a festival somewhere almost every weekend, but the price of going depends mostly on how far it is from Seoul. We priced 17 festival trips from October 2026 to December 2027, per person from Seoul, as a budget day trip and as a comfortable one-night stay. The range: ₩11,100 for an evening at Seoul's winter lights to ₩448,800 for Busan's fireworks night with a seat and a hotel. Dates are marked confirmed only where the organizer has announced them. Almost everything in 2027 is still expected, based on past years.

What the budget chart shows:
- On a day trip, most of the money goes on transport. Getting to Busan and back by bus is ₩84,400 of BIFF's ₩124,400; to Jinju, ₩74,000 of ₩104,000. Entry is usually free.
- Seoul-area festivals cost almost nothing. Seoul Winter Festa, the cherry blossoms, the Lotus Lantern parade and Suwon come to ₩11,100–34,500: subway fares plus food.
- Pentaport is the exception. Its ₩120,000 day ticket (2026 price) is 78% of the budget total, the only trip where the ticket is the biggest cost.
- Jeju is the most expensive day out because it can't be a day trip. A cheap round-trip flight and a dorm bed are built in.

The totals are in the Comfort column of the table above. What the comfort chart shows:
- The night away is what makes comfort expensive. Your share of a room (₩50,000–120,000) plus a second day of meals adds ₩160,000–190,000 to most trips outside Seoul. The faster train usually adds under ₩36,000.
- Busan Fireworks is the most expensive. ₩448,800 includes a ₩100,000 R seat and ₩120,000 as your share of a room away from the beach. On fireworks night in 2025, sea-view rooms at Gwangalli were reportedly ₩1.2–1.5 million, 3–4× a normal Saturday.
- Seoul, Suwon and Incheon need no hotel, so their comfort totals stay under ₩200,000, Pentaport included.

Hwacheon is the only 2027 festival with confirmed dates so far, listed in the Korea Tourism Organization's festival database.
What changed for 2026–27
- KTX fares fell on Sep 1, 2026. Korail and SR merged and fares were cut about 10% on average, for three years: Seoul–Busan is now ₩54,400, down from ₩59,800 (Hankyung). The cut varies by route and isn't confirmed for the Gangneung and Jungang lines. All trains, including former SRT services from Suseo, are booked in 코레일 플러스 (Korail Plus).
- Seoul's fireworks moved to early September. It was held on Sep 5, 2026, about three weeks earlier than usual; listings that put it in October are wrong (Hangang HQ).
- Jeju's fire festival no longer uses real fire. The 2026 edition at 새별오름 (Saebyeol Oreum) used LEDs and projection instead of burning the hillside, and drew about 160,000 people.
- The government's global festival list grew. In March 2026 the culture ministry added Boryeong Mud, Andong Mask Dance and Jinju's lanterns as global festivals (up to ₩800 million a year each, for three years), joining Pentaport, Suwon Hwaseong and Hwacheon. Daegu Chimaek and the Busan International Rock Festival became candidates.
- Buddha's Birthday 2027 is May 13 (a Thursday), not May 15 as some calendars show.
- Busan Fireworks 2026 is the 21st edition (2024 was the 19th and 2025 the 20th). About 1.17 million people came in 2025.
How we priced it
- Per adult, starting in Seoul, in won, at September 2026 prices. Shopping and souvenirs are left out.
- Budget is a day trip on the cheapest fare we could confirm, usually a 우등 (udeung) express or intercity bus, with free viewing. Jeju is the exception: a round-trip flight and a ₩30,000 dorm bed.
- Comfort is one night and two days on the fastest train, with one or two headline paid items. Lodging is half a double room: ₩80,000 in Busan, Gangneung and Jeju (a ₩160,000 room, near the Hotels.com domestic average) and ₩50,000 in smaller cities. Seoul, Suwon and Incheon trips include no hotel.
- Food is an estimate: ₩30,000 for a budget day and ₩70,000 a day on comfort. Adjust with our eating-out prices.
- Transport is the one-way fare × 2, plus ₩5,000 for local buses and subway at the other end.
- The festivals with their own guides (Busan Fireworks, Seoul Winter Festa, Hwacheon, Pyeongchang) use that guide's line-by-line prices, such as Hwacheon's foreigner fishing rate and Busan's ₩26,700 regular bus.
One-way fares from Seoul (most bus and non-Busan KTX fares come from timetable sites; confirm before you book):
| To | Fastest | Cheapest | Time (fast / cheap) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Busan | KTX ₩54,400 | Express bus from ₩26,700 | 2h30 / 4h20 |
| Jinju | KTX about ₩52,400 | Deluxe bus about ₩34,500 | 3h30 / 3h50 |
| Changwon (for Jinhae) | KTX about ₩52,100 | Express bus about ₩24,800 | 3h / 4h10 |
| Daegu | KTX about ₩39,150 | Deluxe bus about ₩30,000 | 1h45 / 3h50 |
| Andong | KTX-Eum ₩25,100 (from Cheongnyangni) | Deluxe bus about ₩24,400 | 1h50 / 2h25 |
| Gangneung | KTX-Eum ₩27,600 | Deluxe bus about ₩24,600 | 1h55 / 2h50 |
| Boryeong | Train about ₩17,400 | Bus about ₩12,900 | 2h45 / 2h10 |
| Hwacheon | — (no railway) | Intercity bus about ₩14,400–15,700 | 2h40–3h20 |
| Jeju | Flight, round trip about ₩75,000–165,000 | — | 1h15 |
Express bus fares were reportedly due to rise about 9% on Oct 1, 2026, so autumn budget totals may run a few thousand won higher.
Planning by season and when to book
Autumn (October–November) has the most festivals and crowds. Oct 3–5 (with a substitute Monday) and Oct 9–11 are long weekends, and those trains sell out first. Jinju's lanterns are lit 18:00–24:00, so check the last bus before planning a same-day return. The foliage peaks at the same time (Part 3).
Winter (December–February) is cheap in Seoul and cold everywhere: January lows near Hwacheon average about −9°C, and thin ice postponed its 2020 opening twice. Pack with the weather guide, and consider a jjimjilbang night instead of a hotel.
Spring (March–May) follows the bloom; Jinhae and Yeouido have not announced 2027 dates, so keep bookings refundable.
Summer (July–August) brings heat and monsoon rain. The 2027 World University Games (Aug 1–12) include beach volleyball in Boryeong, which may shift the Mud Festival; nothing is announced.
| What | When to book | Where |
|---|---|---|
| KTX for weekends and holidays | As soon as sales open; holiday trains about 3 weeks ahead (Chuseok 2027: Sep 14–16) | 코레일 플러스 (Korail Plus) app |
| Busan Fireworks seats | On sale until Nov 6, 2026 | NOL World, in English; passport at pickup |
| Gwangalli hotel for Nov 7 | Months ahead, or stay in Seomyeon | See the Busan itinerary |
| BIFF screenings | General sale opened Sep 21, 2026 | BIFF official site |
| Hwacheon fishing and ₩5,000 shuttles | Tickets from early January; 2027 shuttle unconfirmed | NOL, Trazy, Gangwon G-shuttle |
| Pentaport | When 2027 sales open (check the official site) | NOL World, Trip.com |
Crowds, safety and luggage
At Busan Fireworks in 2025, Gwangalli beach was capped at 200,000 people and exits opened in stages, with about a 30-minute wait to leave. For a free spot on the sand, arrive by late morning or early afternoon. Agree on a meeting point, because phone networks jam. Tourist hotline: 1330; emergencies: 112 (police) and 119 (fire and ambulance). Arriving with bags? See the lockers and luggage-delivery guide. To pair a festival with a city stay, see Korea beyond Seoul.
Cost-cutting checklist
- Pick a festival you can reach by subway. Seoul and Suwon cost ₩11,100–34,500 for the day on your transit card.
- Take the bus for day trips. Busan by bus instead of KTX saves about ₩55,000 round trip.
- Avoid the peak night. Stay a night before or after the fireworks, or outside Gwangalli.
- Use the foreigner rates. Hwacheon's ice fishing was ₩10,000 with a passport instead of ₩15,000 in 2026, with ₩5,000 back in vouchers.
- Skip paid seats where viewing is free. Jinju, Jinhae, the Lotus Lantern parade and Seoul's lights cost nothing to watch.
- Don't plan around last year's dates. Seoul's fireworks moved to September; most of 2027 is unannounced.
Next: the Busan Fireworks Festival on Nov 7: seats, free spots and the hotel math.
Frequently asked questions
What are the main festivals in Korea in October and November 2026?
All confirmed: the Andong Mask Dance Festival runs to Oct 4, the Busan International Rock Festival Oct 2–4, the Jinju Namgang Yudeung (lantern) Festival Oct 3–18 (free), the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival Oct 4–11, the Busan International Film Festival Oct 6–15 (screenings ₩10,000), the Gangneung Coffee Festival Oct 21–25 and the 21st Busan Fireworks Festival on Saturday, Nov 7 (free, or ₩70,000–100,000 for a seat).
How much does a festival trip from Seoul cost?
Per person, as of September 2026: a budget day trip runs from about ₩11,100 (an evening at Seoul Winter Festa) to ₩173,100 (Jeju, which needs a flight and a dorm night). A comfortable one-night trip for two sharing a room runs from about ₩73,100 for Seoul's free festivals to ₩448,800 for Busan Fireworks with an R seat. Outside Seoul, transport is usually the biggest single cost of a day trip.
Is the Seoul International Fireworks Festival in October 2026?
No. It was moved earlier and took place on Saturday, Sep 5, 2026 over the Han River at Yeouido. The 2027 date has not been announced; recent editions fell on Saturdays between early September and early October. The big autumn fireworks still ahead in 2026 are in Busan, over Gwangalli Beach on Nov 7.
Is the Jeju Fire Festival still held?
Yes, under the same name, but the hillside is no longer set alight. The oreum burning was dropped after 2023, the 2024 festival was skipped and 2025 was cancelled for wind. In March 2026 it returned at Saebyeol Oreum with a 'digital fire' of LEDs and projection. The 2027 date is not announced; expect March.
When is Buddha's Birthday 2027 and the Lotus Lantern parade?
Buddha's Birthday is Thursday, May 13, 2027, a public holiday. The Lotus Lantern (Yeondeunghoe) parade usually runs on a Saturday one to two weeks earlier, so May 1 or May 8, 2027 is likely, but the date is not announced. Watching is free.
How do foreigners book trains and festival tickets?
Since the Korail–SR merger on Sep 1, 2026, all KTX trains, including the former SRT services, are booked in one app, Korail Plus; Seoul–Busan is ₩54,400. Busan Fireworks seats sell to foreigners on NOL World in English, with a passport check at pickup. Pentaport sells abroad through NOL World and Trip.com. Most other festivals are free and need no ticket.
