The 21st 부산불꽃축제 (Busan Bulkkot Chukje), the Busan Fireworks Festival, is on Saturday, November 7, 2026 — confirmed — over 광안리 (Gwangalli) Beach and the Gwangan Bridge. Watching is free from the sand; the paid seats are ₩100,000 (R) and ₩70,000 (S). What turns this into an expensive weekend is not the ticket but the room: a sea-view hotel on fireworks night costs roughly three to four times a normal Saturday. Here is what each style of trip costs from Seoul, and how to keep the bill near the bottom of the range.

Total ₩86,600 ₩448,800 ₩1,003,800

All figures are per person from Seoul, with two people sharing a room; transport and seats are 2026 fares, lodging and food are estimates. Budget is a day trip by standard express bus (₩26,700 each way as of September 1) plus two Busan subway rides, a free spot on the beach, and two bowls of 국밥 (gukbap) with convenience-store snacks. Comfort is KTX both ways (₩54,400 each way) plus about ₩20,000 of local taxis and subway, an R seat, and half of a roughly ₩240,000 room away from the beach — an assumption, not a quote. Splurge swaps that room for a sea-view Gwangalli room at the midpoint of the 2025 reported range, split two ways.

The big lesson: the room is two-thirds of the Splurge bill

In the Splurge column, lodging alone is about two-thirds of the total. According to September 2025 press reports, a Gwangalli ocean-view hotel that charges ₩500,000–₩600,000 on an ordinary weekend asked ₩1,200,000–₩1,500,000 for fireworks night, about three to four times more; one guesthouse was reportedly fully booked at around ₩2,500,000, and one mid-size hotel room priced at ₩900,000 was gone by July. 2026 rates were not published as of September 23 — check with dates entered before you believe any listing.

The city runs a "fair price" campaign and spot checks, but room prices themselves are not regulated; what is punishable is raising the price after you have booked or charging a rate that was not posted (a 2025 report described a ₩650,000 booking later "re-priced" to ₩2,000,000). Screenshot your confirmation.

Ways to cut it:

  • Sleep somewhere else. 서면 (Seomyeon), the Busan Station area or Haeundae's back streets are 15–40 minutes by subway and should sit much closer to normal weekend rates.
  • Skip the seat. R and S cost ₩70,000–100,000; a beach spot is free if you arrive early.
  • Do it as a day trip (the Budget column) and put the savings into a KTX return instead of the bus.
  • Adding an S seat to the Budget plan brings it to about ₩156,600 — still far below any hotel night.

Date, times and seats

Item 2026 detail
Date Sat, Nov 7, 2026 (confirmed, 21st edition)
Paid-seat entry opens 15:00
Cultural program 18:00–19:00
Seat holders must be seated by 18:00 — late arrivals lose entry and refund
Fireworks 19:00–20:00, 10-minute break 19:15–19:25
Regular ticket sales Sept 4, 2026 14:00 → Nov 6, 2026 17:00
Weather call reportedly announced Nov 6 at 13:00 — check

Times are the organiser's, from the official ticket page. NOL World's English travel guide says the fireworks start around 19:30; plan on 19:00. The early-bird sale on August 26 sold out in about a minute.

R seats (₩100,000) come with a table and chair; S seats (₩70,000) are a chair. Both sit on the sand in front of the Hotel Aqua Palace and the Homers Hotel, 219 광안해변로 (Gwanganhaebyeon-ro), 수영구 (Suyeong-gu). New this year is a 10% discount for Busan residents (₩90,000 / ₩63,000, up to four seats, ID or a proof of address under three months old checked at the gate). Tourists do not qualify; whether a foreign resident with a Busan address on their residence card counts has not been confirmed, so ask before buying at that price.

Booking as a foreigner

  • NOL World (world.nol.com) is the organiser's English channel for foreigners, at the regular ₩100,000 / ₩70,000. You collect at the on-site ticket booth with your passport. Orders placed by October 11 are posted to you; from October 12 you pick up on site. Someone else can collect with a copy of the buyer's ID and the booking confirmation.
  • Refunds on the Korean NOL Ticket site: full refund (minus the booking fee) within 7 days of booking, then a cancellation charge of 10% up to 10 days before, rising to 30% in the last 2 days. Check NOL World's own terms at checkout.
  • Klook sells a "ticket + round-trip shuttle bus" package, listed at US$109.15 (R) and US$80.05 (S) in September 2026. It is non-refundable, and the shuttle's departure point was not stated on the page.
  • KKday sells to non-Korean passport holders only, also non-refundable, with pickup opposite the Aqua Palace on November 7, 12:30–18:00. Listed from US$49.54 (S) and from US$103.03 for an R seat bundled with Spa Land.
  • BNK Busan Bank sells through its app and, for S seats only, at branches — useful only if you read Korean.

The dollar prices above are reference points as listed in September 2026; the won price on NOL World is the official one. Skip resale: in 2025 S seats reportedly changed hands for ₩20,000–40,000 over face value, and one R seat was listed at ₩600,000.

Watching for free: where, and when to arrive

The free areas are the rest of Gwangalli Beach outside the seat blocks, 민락수변공원 (Millak Subyeon Gongwon), the waterside park at the beach's north end (whether it opens as normal this year is unconfirmed), 동백섬 (Dongbaekseom) in Haeundae, the 이기대 (Igidae) coastal park to the south, and 황령산 (Hwangnyeongsan) hill behind the city for a high, distant view.

Advice on timing does not agree. NOL World's guide says to be on the sand by 10:00–12:00 for a good spot; a Trip.com guide says 2–3 hours before. Both can be right: for the front half of the beach, arrive late morning; for the back rows, Igidae or the hill, mid-afternoon is the latest safe bet. Bring a waterproof mat, hot packs, a power bank and food — see what to pack for November. If you are carrying bags on a day trip, drop them in a locker at Busan Station first (luggage storage).

Paid alternatives, by year of the most recent report (2026 packages are usually announced around October):

Option Price per person Reported
Cruise from Busan Port's coastal terminal, 16:30, ~7 hours, sandwich ₩139,000 2025
Whale-watching boat from Ulsan (bus + boat) ₩120,000 adult, ₩80,000 child 2025
Yacht from Gwangalli ₩200,000 2024
Beachfront café seat charge ₩70,000–100,000 2019
Pub or 막걸리 (makgeolli) bar seat ₩50,000–70,000 2019

Treat the café numbers as old: they are the latest published, not current. The official site also reportedly sells hotel packages until October 25; prices were not shown when we checked. For normal Busan food prices, see eating out in Korea.

Getting there from Seoul — and back the same night

One way, per person Fare Notes
KTX Seoul–Busan, standard ₩54,400 After the Sept 1, 2026 KTX–SRT merger (was ₩59,800); book in the Korail Plus app
Express bus, standard ₩26,700 As of Sept 1; a ~9% rise from Oct 1 was reported (≈₩29,100) — check
Express bus, premium ₩39,700 Same caveat (≈₩43,300 after a 9% rise)
Flight Gimpo–Gimhae ~₩110,000–206,000 round trip November fares on an aggregator, Sept 2026
Busan subway ₩1,600 / ₩1,800 Zone 1 / zone 2; T-money from Seoul works

If the bus increase goes through, the Budget column rises by roughly ₩5,000. Your Seoul T-money card works on Busan's subway and buses (transit cards compared).

On the day, the stations for the beach are 광안역 (Gwangan-yeok) and 금련산역 (Geumnyeonsan-yeok) on Line 2, each 10–15 minutes' walk from the sand. In 2025 Busan ran about 200 extra trains on Lines 1–3, with trains every 4.5–6 minutes from 16:00 to 19:00 and every 3–5 minutes from 20:00 to 22:00; the 2026 transport plan is usually announced in early November. Whether Gwangan or Geumnyeonsan will be skipped at peak times has not been announced; the official advice is to use neighbouring stations such as 남천역 (Namcheon-yeok) and 수영역 (Suyeong-yeok), and walking 15 minutes to one of them after the show is usually faster than queuing. In 2025 the beach road was reportedly closed from 10:00 and the bridge deck from 17:00 to midnight, so do not plan on a taxi near the beach.

Getting back to Seoul the same night is doable but tight. The fireworks end at 20:00, the exit is staged, and the ride to Busan Station takes up to an hour on a packed night. Book a return leaving 22:00 or later as soon as you decide to go — evening KTX seats from Busan that night are likely to go first. The alternatives are the last express buses (book those in advance as well) or staying over and taking a Sunday-morning train; a jjimjilbang night is the cheapest way to do that. To make a weekend of it, pair Sunday with the Busan 2–3 day itinerary.

Crowds, safety and the cold

About 1.17 million people came in 2025, by official estimates reported in the press. Since the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush, the city runs the night as a crowd-control operation: in 2025 Gwangalli Beach was capped at 200,000 people, sections were closed one after another as they filled, four emergency exit routes were kept clear, and about 7,000 staff were deployed. There were 86 medical call-outs and no major incidents.

Leaving is staged: the road side of the beach goes first, the sand last, and in 2025 that meant roughly 30 minutes of waiting. Follow the stewards and the LED signboard trucks, and do not push toward the stations. Mobile networks slow down, so agree on a meeting point before the show. Emergency numbers are 119 (fire and ambulance) and 112 (police); the 1330 tourist line has English speakers.

November nights by the sea are cold and windy, and you may sit still for five hours or more. Dress in layers, bring a hat and gloves, and keep hot packs in your pockets. Check the November weather notes before you go.

Where to eat and stay near Gwangalli (rated on Kakao Map and Google)

How we picked these: we pulled the rated places around the venue on Kakao Map (카카오맵 (Kakao Map), the map most Koreans use for reviews) and checked each one on Google Maps on 2026-09-23. The combined score weights each platform by how many ratings it has and pulls small samples toward 4.0, so a 5.0 from five people cannot beat a 4.4 from a thousand. Places rated well on only one platform (for example 4.8 on Kakao but 4.1 on Google) were left out. Naver Map no longer shows star averages, so it is not in the score — but the Naver link on each row opens the place there, which is where Korean visitors read the most recent reviews. Ratings move and places close; check the map before you go, and book dinner on fireworks nights and holidays.

Restaurants on the beach road fill up by 17:00 on fireworks day and many switch to a reservation-only or set menu; eat a late lunch, or pick the Namcheon (south) end and walk back.

For rooms, the lesson from the cost chart holds: beachfront hotels charge fireworks-night prices months ahead. Park Hyatt faces the bridge from across the bay; Centum City, two subway stops away, is the value play.

Cost-cutting checklist

  • Watch for free from the sand, Igidae or Dongbaekseom; arrive late morning for the beach.
  • Sleep away from Gwangalli — Seomyeon or Busan Station — or skip the hotel and do a day trip.
  • Book the return trip now in Korail Plus (KTX ₩54,400) or at the bus terminal; the night itself sells out.
  • Buy seats on NOL World in won; buy Klook or KKday packages only if you are sure of your dates, since they cannot be refunded.
  • Be seated by 18:00 if you paid; after that the seat and the refund are both gone.
  • Screenshot hotel bookings in case the price changes afterwards.
  • Carry your own food and hot packs — beachfront cafés charge for the view.

This is part 2 of the festival series; for other dates, see the Korea festival calendar 2026–2027, and if you are in Korea earlier in autumn, the autumn foliage guide. Seoul's own fireworks festival already took place on September 5 this year, so Busan is the big one left for 2026.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Busan Fireworks Festival 2026?

Saturday, November 7, 2026 (confirmed), the 21st edition, over Gwangalli Beach with Igidae and Dongbaekseom as the other main viewing areas. The official ticket page lists the fireworks from 19:00 to 20:00 with a 10-minute break at 19:15–19:25; a cultural program runs from 18:00. Paid-seat holders can enter from 15:00 and must be in their seats by 18:00 or lose both entry and refund.

How much are Busan Fireworks Festival tickets, and can foreigners buy them?

R seats (table and chair) cost ₩100,000 and S seats (chair only) ₩70,000 per seat, on sale from September 4, 2026 14:00 to November 6, 2026 17:00. The 10% discount (₩90,000 / ₩63,000) is only for Busan residents with ID or proof of address, not tourists. Foreigners can book in English on NOL World and show their passport at the on-site booth; Klook and KKday sell non-refundable packages priced in US dollars.

Where can I watch the Busan fireworks for free, and how early should I arrive?

Anywhere on Gwangalli Beach outside the paid zones, plus Millak Waterside Park, Dongbaekseom in Haeundae, Igidae and Hwangnyeongsan. Advice on timing varies from 10:00–12:00 (NOL World's guide, for a front spot on the sand) to 2–3 hours before the show (Trip.com), so plan on late morning for the beach and mid-afternoon at the latest for the hills or the back rows. In 2025 the beach was capped at 200,000 people and sections were closed as they filled.

Can I go back to Seoul the same night?

Yes, but only if you book the return before the tickets go. The show ends at 20:00, exit is staged (about 30 minutes of waiting in 2025), and the subway from Gwangalli to Busan Station takes the better part of an hour on a crowded night, so aim for a KTX or express bus leaving 22:00 or later. KTX is ₩54,400 each way in standard class and is booked in the Korail Plus app; evening trains that day are likely to sell out early.

Why are Gwangalli hotels so expensive on fireworks night?

Because a room with a bridge view is a private box seat for 1 million people. 2025 press reports described sea-view hotels charging ₩1.2–1.5 million for the night against ₩500,000–600,000 on a normal weekend, about 3–4 times more, and some guesthouses around ₩2.5 million. Room prices themselves are not capped; according to 2025 reports, only raising the price after you have booked (or charging an unposted rate) is punishable. Staying in Seomyeon, near Busan Station or doing a day trip avoids the markup.
